Home About Contact Syndication subscribe to Filmplosion! Author Brendon Lindsey, here. I'm a 22 year-old living near Portland, OR. Currently, I work in videogame journalism at GamerNode.com , and sports radio. I've always had a love for movies, though, so I thought it was time I made my own movie blog. Don't expect a ton of groundbreaking intellectual discourses here--just the latest news, some reviews, and commentary from an often sarcastic film fanatic. While some people take this stuff way too seriously, I don't even know the meaning of that word. |
Or lots of words, for that matter. Categories DVD reviews (3) General (2) Idiocy (2) Impromptu Cinema (1) News (7) Reviews (2) Rumors (2) Trailers (2) Uncategorized (3) WTF? Feb 2 Trailer round-up: Prince Caspian, Wanted, Son of Rambow By Brendon Lindsey Tags: Matrix-like , Morgan Freeman , Prince Caspian , Son of Rambow , Trailers , Wanted Three new trailers have hit the Internet amidst all the pre-Super Bowl hysterics. (Woo! Go Giants? |
) Of all the new trailers, the three movies I17;m looking forward to most11;Son of Rambow, Wanted, and Prince Caspian11;I17;ve posted here. Son of Rambow is about two British schoolboys who set about to recreate the classic film, Rambo: First Blood. It features Jessica from Spaced fame, so you know it17;s going to be quality laughs. You can check out a Sundance review of the film here . Prince Caspian is the second in the Narnia film series. That17;s pretty much all you need to know about that. Wanted is the most intriguing of the bunch. |
Starring James McAvoy, Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman, it17;s about the comic series of the same name. Basically, it17;s about a secret society of assassins with badass powers. Check out the trailers for the three after the jump. Read more » No Comments Subscribe to Filmplosion! Filed under: Trailers Feb 1 New Iron Man trailer during the Super Bowl By Brendon Lindsey Tags: alcoholism , Iron Man , robotics , Super Bowl Sunday , trailer In case you care, during the Super Bowl this Sunday, Marvel will be airing a new trailer for the upcoming Iron Man movie. |
It17;s supposed to air at 20;approximately 4:30 PM PST21; and will appear on marvel17;s website and the official Iron Man movie site after it airs. You can tell the Super Bowl is going to suck this year when I17;m a fucking sports journalist working primarily in football and I17;m more excited for an Iron Man teaser than potential history in the making. Bush , Hannah Montana , Heath Ledger , Meet the Spartans , Oliver Stone We17;re one month into 2008. That17;s 31 (or 32) days. Already, though, we17;ve had so much stupidity and bad news around the movie industry that I would not be surprised if tomorrow, I walked outside and found the entire earth covered in flames, while demons drive by in giant, flaming cars shooting explosive fireballs at people to the tune of bad 8017;s music. Basically, I expect the apocalypse to look like a Michael Bay film. Here17;s what17;s happened so far in 2008 that17;s convinced me: Read more » No Comments Subscribe to Filmplosion! |

Filed under: General , WTF? Feb 1 Hannah Montana &38; Miley Cyrus concert above 80% on Rotten By Brendon Lindsey Tags: critics suck , Hannah Montana , jailbat , not again What the hell? Is this the apocalypse? Last weekend Meet the Spartans was the number one movie in America. Now, that damn Hannah Montana theater concert thing is sitting at 82% on Rotten Tomatoes . If this somehow ends up being the number one movie in America (which would be astounding considered its limited release), I think I17;m going to kill something. |

Not a person, because that17;d be a huge overreaction. Maybe a plant or cactus, or something botanical by nature. No Comments Subscribe to Filmplosion! Filed under: News , WTF? Feb 1 Impromptu Cinema 1: Elephants + stomping + America = blockbuster By Brendon Lindsey Tags: awesome , film pitch , ideas , Impromptu Cinema , Rosie O'Donnel I17;m going to make it a weekly thing to come up with some random plot/backstory for a movie, and then three film ideas based on that. With all of the crap out there today, even the worst things I can come up with are better than half the stuff coming out. |
Still, expect some great ideas which would easily compete for a Best Picture nomination. So if you17;re in the film industry, animate stuff, or are even taking a film class in high school and want to use one of these, just let me know and we17;ll work something out. (And don17;t forget to tell me how awesome the idea is, and all that usual stuff.) For the first installment, I present an idea I had a few months ago, originally written for an adventure game a friend was working on. He decided to take a job with a high profile mod instead of making his own game, and rather than let it remain unused, it17;s kicking off my weekly Impromptu Cinema. |
Hit the full story for the backstory and then the three ideas. Read more » 3 Comments Subscribe to Filmplosion! Filed under: Impromptu Cinema Jan 31 First posters for new Jackie Chan/Jet Li flick By Brendon Lindsey I17;m still giddy over the fact that Jackie Chan and Jet Li are going to be in an epic martial arts film together, with Yuen Woo-ping serving as the choreographer. It17;s like my third highest ranking fanboy fantasy come true. Sure, the plot of The Forbidden Kingdom revolving around the kid from Sky High being transported to ancient China where he undergoes a quest to learn martial arts and probably better himself is a little cringe-inducing, but come on! |
Jackie Chan and Jet Li! Even if this is as bad as The Myth and War combined, it17;ll be worth it purely to see them fight each other. With their talent and resume, and Yuen Woo-ping calling the shots&30; At least the fights will be legendary, that17;s all I17;m saying. Yahoo recently released a series of 6 posters for the film, showing all of the stars, including the awesomely named Li Bingbing. If all you care about are the Jackie and Jet themed ones, though, hit the jump for their respective prints. |

Filed under: Uncategorized Jan 31 DVD REVIEW: The Best of Comedy Central Presents Uncensored By Brendon Lindsey Tags: Brian Regan , Carlos Mencia , comedy , Comedy Central , Dane Cook , Demetri Martin , Jeff Dunham , Jim Gaffigan , Lewis Black , Mitch Hedberg , review , stand-up The Best of Comedy Central Presents Uncensored MPAA Rating: Not Rated, intended for mature audiences Release Date: February 5, 2008 Run Time: 176 minutes For years I17;ve had to download bits and pieces of Comedy Central Presents stand-up to ensure my friends could see my favorite comedians. |
Many never got their own DVD release, and waiting for their special to repeat on a Friday or Saturday night is iffy at best. When I heard that Comedy Central was putting out a DVD with the best of Comedy Central Presents (and that it was uncensored) my interest went through the roof. Fast forward to yesterday, when the DVD arrived in my mailbox. For fans of stand-up, the cover alone is enough to wet your appetite. “Featuring: Lewis Black, Dane Cook, Jeff Dunham, Jim Gaffigan, Mitch Hedberg, Demetri Martin, Carlos Mencia, Brian Regan.” That17;s an all-star comedy lineup, people. |
(Except for Mencia.) Read more » 1 Comment Subscribe to Filmplosion! Filed under: DVD reviews , Reviews Jan 31 What a surprise! A Cloverfield sequel! (Sarcasm is hard to write) By Brendon Lindsey Tags: Cloverfield , duh , sequel Way to go, Variety , confirming that there17;s most likely going to be a Cloverfield sequel. Who could have possibly guessed that? According to the Wonder Sleuth, Matt Reeves (the guy who directed the people directing the movie via their handcams) is working on a deal with Paramount to get the Cloverfield sequel underway. |
No word on what it17;s about, but I wouldn17;t be surprised if we saw a movie from the point of view of someone who knew what the hell was going on. What I17;m more interested in is how they17;re going to pretentsiously market this one on the Internet. They17;ve already set up fake websites and companies, fake news report videos, and fake Myspace accounts. Is there anything left they can do? My money17;s on a series of 20;leaked internal reports21; happening to find their way onto a conspiracy blog and Facebook accounts. |
For the monster. If you17;re smart, you won17;t poke him. No Comments Subscribe to Filmplosion! Filed under: News , Rumors Jan 31 Do you REALLY want to save the Justice League movie? Here17;s how. By Brendon Lindsey Tags: Justice League , rebuttal Recently, I came across a blog entry detailing ways to 20;save the Justice League movie.21; I agree wholeheartedly with Charlie about his first point about keeping it simple, but as for his story&30; First off, the idea to keep it simple? That should be obvious. |
By the time we get (if ever) a full-out Justice League movie, there really shouldn17;t be any need for backstory. Superman and Batman are iconic enough that even without their franchises, people know who they are. Wonder Woman17;s close to them, and also has a new movie coming out. Flash is simple enough; he runs fast, and depending on which Flash we get he17;s a smartass or a tragic hero. Green Lantern and Martian Manhunter are really the only members of the JL who would need some quick explanation for the general filmgoing populace. |
(Skip Aquaman; it would be too hard to fix his damaged image from the Superfriends cartoon when he17;s not the main player.) From there, though, we17;re in complete disagreeance. Sure, his plot sounds solid enough; the 20;special21; heroes like Superman, Lantern, Flash and co. are in space fighting, while Batman, Wonder Woman and Aquaman are down on earth. But there are two huge issues with it. For starters, why the hell would someone want to see a movie centered around the relationship of Lantern and Flash? |
And if they17;re fighting in space, why would Lantern bring Flash with him just because he can react? Everyone else can fly and breathe in space through their own means (or hold their breath). Flash cannot. But the biggest issue? Why completely ignore the fact that Bruce Timm has already crafted the perfect script for the movie? Just look at the beginning of the Justice League animated series. Spruce some things up a big, add in another couple fights, and you have a blockbuster. Don17;t fix what isn17;t broken. |

1 Comment Subscribe to Filmplosion! Filed under: Uncategorized Jan 30 Joss Whedon doesn17;t like movies that objectify women. Teapot, kettle, etc. By Brendon Lindsey Tags: Buffy , hypocracy , Joss Whedon , whaa? Sometimes you just can17;t make this shit up. Joss Whedon 12; who made a career off of casting shows and movies with hot women kicking ass 12; has come out against the cult classic Weird Science because he 20;finds it offensive21; that it objectifies women that way. Teapot, kettle, etc. |
On the last installment of the Geeks On podcast, Whedon stated , 20;I hate Weird Science not a little. I find it offensive, the boy fantasy of building a girl. Obviously, we were doing the nasty version of it [in Buffy the Vampire Slayer ], because I find it grotesque.21; Seriously, Joss! Look in the damn mirror! Are you seriously telling me the guy who made a career off of Buffy the Vampire Slayer finds it offensive that a movie revolved around the idea of guys building a fantasy girl? You got rich off a show about a hot teen who fought vampires using kung fu! |
In case you forgot, Whedon17;s current project 12; the TV series Dollhouse 12; revolves around the idea of people building fantasy men/women. Using packages, people can imprint their memory and personalities as they wish, and when they17;re done with the 20;doll21; just wipe the slate clean. It17;s very convenient that it touches upon the issues he17;s suddenly decided to stand up for. Don17;t worry though, because Joss Whedon would never stoop to using women as a means to make his show more popular. |
That17;s just offensive. 1 Comment Subscribe to Filmplosion! Filed under: Idiocy , News , WTF? Next Page » Template design by Web-Kreation and Brendon Lindsey |

<p>Three new trailers have hit the Internet amidst all the pre-Super Bowl hysterics. (Woo! Go Giants?) Of all the new trailers, the three movies I17;m looking forward to most11;Son of Rambow, Wanted, and Prince Caspian11;I17;ve posted here. |
</p> |
<p>Son of Rambow is about two British schoolboys who set about to recreate the classic film, Rambo: First Blood. It features Jessica from Spaced fame, so you know it17;s going to be quality laughs. You can check out a Sundance review of the film |
<a href="http://www.cinematical.com/2007/01/24/sundance-review-son-of-rambow/" target="_blank" onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outbound/article/www.cinematical.com');">here |
</a>. |
</p> |
<p>Prince Caspian is the second in the Narnia film series. That17;s pretty much all you need to know about that. |
</p> |
<p>Wanted is the most intriguing of the bunch. Starring James McAvoy, Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman, it17;s about the comic series of the same name. Basically, it17;s about a secret society of assassins with badass powers. |
</p> |
<p>Check out the trailers for the three after the jump. |

<p>We17;re one month into 2008. |

<p>I17;m going to make it a weekly thing to come up with some random plot/backstory for a movie, and then three film ideas based on that. With all of the crap out there today, even the worst things I can come up with are better than half the stuff coming out. Still, expect some great ideas which would easily compete for a Best Picture nomination. |
</p> |
<p>So if you17;re in the film industry, animate stuff, or are even taking a film class in high school and want to use one of these, just let me know and we17;ll work something out. (And don17;t forget to tell me how awesome the idea is, and all that usual stuff.) |
</p> |
<p>For the first installment, I present an idea I had a few months ago, originally written for an adventure game a friend was working on. He decided to take a job with a high profile mod instead of making his own game, and rather than let it remain unused, it17;s kicking off my weekly Impromptu Cinema. Hit the full story for the backstory and then the three ideas. |

<p>I17;m still giddy over the fact that Jackie Chan and Jet Li are going to be in an epic martial arts film together, with Yuen Woo-ping serving as the choreographer. It17;s like my third highest ranking fanboy fantasy come true. |
</p> |
<p>Sure, the plot of The Forbidden Kingdom revolving around the kid from Sky High being transported to ancient China where he undergoes a quest to learn martial arts and probably better himself is a little cringe-inducing, but come on! |

<p>Yahoo recently released a series of |

<p style="margin-bottom: 0in">For years I17;ve had to download bits and pieces of Comedy Central Presents stand-up to ensure my friends could see my favorite comedians. Many never got their own DVD release, and waiting for their special to repeat on a Friday or Saturday night is iffy at best. When I heard that Comedy Central was putting out a DVD with the best of Comedy Central Presents (and that it was uncensored) my interest went through the roof. |
</p> |
<p style="margin-bottom: 0in">Fast forward to yesterday, when the DVD arrived in my mailbox. (Except for Mencia.) |

</a>, confirming that there17;s most likely going to be a Cloverfield sequel. |

<p>What I17;m more interested in is how they17;re going to pretentsiously market this one on the Internet. They17;ve already set up fake websites and companies, fake news report videos, and fake Myspace accounts. Is there anything left they can do? My money17;s on a series of 20;leaked internal reports21; happening to find their way onto a conspiracy blog and Facebook accounts. |

<a href="http://io9.com/349451/how-the-justice-league-movie-could-still-be-saved" target="_blank" onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outbound/article/io9.com');">blog entry |
</a> detailing ways to 20;save the Justice League movie.21; I agree wholeheartedly with Charlie about his first point about keeping it simple, but as for his story&30; |
</p> |
<p>First off, the idea to keep it simple? That should be obvious. By the time we get (if ever) a full-out Justice League movie, there really shouldn17;t be any need for backstory. Superman and Batman are iconic enough that even without their franchises, people know who they are. Wonder Woman17;s close to them, and also has a new movie coming out. Flash is simple enough; he runs fast, and depending on which Flash we get he17;s a smartass or a tragic hero. Green Lantern and Martian Manhunter are really the only members of the JL who would need some quick explanation for the general filmgoing populace. (Skip Aquaman; it would be too hard to fix his damaged image from the Superfriends cartoon when he17;s not the main player.) |
</p> |
<p>From there, though, we17;re in complete disagreeance. |
</p> |
<p>But the biggest issue? Why completely ignore the fact that Bruce Timm has already crafted the perfect script for the movie? Just look at the beginning of the Justice League animated series. Spruce some things up a big, add in another couple fights, and you have a blockbuster. Don17;t fix what isn17;t broken. |

<p>Sometimes you just can17;t make this shit up. Joss Whedon 12; who made a career off of casting shows and movies with hot women kicking ass 12; has come out against the cult classic Weird Science because he 20;finds it offensive21; that it objectifies women that way. Teapot, kettle, etc. |
</p> |
<p>On the last installment of the Geeks On podcast, |
<a href="http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire/index.php?id=47730" target="_blank" onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outbound/article/www.scifi.com');">Whedon stated |
</a>, 20;I hate |
<em>Weird Science |
</em> not a little. I find it offensive, the boy fantasy of building a girl. Obviously, we were doing the nasty version of it [in |
<em>Buffy the Vampire Slayer |
</em>], because I find it grotesque.21; |
</p> |
<p>Seriously, Joss! Look in the damn mirror! Are you seriously telling me the guy who made a career off of Buffy the Vampire Slayer finds it offensive that a movie revolved around the idea of guys building a fantasy girl? You got rich off a show about a hot teen who fought vampires using kung fu! |
</p> |
<p>In case you forgot, Whedon17;s current project 12; the TV series Dollhouse 12; revolves around the idea of people building fantasy men/women. Using packages, people can imprint their memory and personalities as they wish, and when they17;re done with the 20;doll21; just wipe the slate clean. It17;s very convenient that it touches upon the issues he17;s suddenly decided to stand up for. |
</p> |
<p>Don17;t worry though, because Joss Whedon would never stoop to using women as a means to make his show more popular. That17;s just offensive. |
